Excellent And Wondrous Band Members

Oscar Edwards (he/him) - Tenor Saxophone

Blah blah blah stuff about water science and saxophone lorem ipsum dolor sit amet etcetera. Place holder text that is really exciting. This is going to be a short bio. This is a short bio. Oscar is the last surviving member of the critically endangered Water Science Major. A tenor saxophone is a saxophone that has been given tenure at a university, making it a very fancy saxophone. Have you ever heard a goose? I'll leave the inferences of that relating to the saxophone up to you. Change this Oscar or I'll keep insulting the saxophone. Piano? Too many keys. Saxophone? Too many keys. These are all instruments with too many options. Trust only in things with four keys or fewer. Best of all is a bugle or natural trumpet. Or just scream, that has no keys or valves. You don't even need to hold it!

Jesse Hill (he/him) - Trumpet and Musician-Wrangling

Jesse started his musical life with the keyboard at the age of 5. At the age of 9, in a tragic accident, Jesse took up the trumpet instead of the tiger oboe. He never recovered, playing the trumpet since then, and shockingly, taking up the trombone and dabbling in cornet, French Horn, and anything he can get his hands on. Jesse studies music and science at ANU. He comes from a classical music background, so naturally, he studies jazz and has started a jazz band - Uncle Doss. To make up for the complete lack of writing using actual words instead of notes or mathematical symbols in his degree, he sometimes ghostwrites bios for other people. You'll never work out which ones.

Jarrah Palethorpe (he/they) - Drums

Jarrah started playing the piano at the tender age of 6, then moved to drums by age 9. He much preferred this, since you were allowed to hit things with sticks and then be met with approval, which normally requires a significant amount of athletic ability. From here, he branched out into 4-mallet jazz vibraphone, only to find that the demand for 4-mallet jazz vibraphone is nowhere near as high as he had hoped. Now studying science at the ANU, he has returned to the relative safety of rhythmic violence while playing as many other random instruments as he can afford on the side.

Harrison Smith (he/they) - Keys

Once upon a time there was a young lad named Harrison who was notoriously known for his extreme case of thumb twiddling. Everyday his habit tormented him, reminding of him of his yearning for a more stimulating finger activity. Luckily his uncle, named Doss, put his extremities to good use and appointed him 'lord finger twiddler' in an all new nifty band! Harrison also likes rock - as in the pebbly stuff on the ground. He says the music genre is also good.

Maddy Upfold (she/her) - Trombone

Maddy's interest in music began when she joined the percussion ensemble and started piano at the age of 10. When she was only 11 years old, she wanted to pick up a small instrument like the flute, however, she was given the Trombone and has not put it down since. She now studies the unusual combination of music and archaeology at the ANU. Her love for music has led her to the depths of jazz.

Ryan Yu (he/him) - Bass and Vocals

For years now, Ryan has made the bass go boom boom clap and bow wow wow, but is now hoping to make the bass go bum bum bum. He has had classical training in piano and has played in rock and funk bands. He also studies law and arts at ANU. His favourite colour is probably blue.

And guests!

Abigail Dunn (she/they) - Vocals

LOREM! IPSUM! DOLOR! SIT! AMET! Abigail has chosen an instrument with no valves, keys, or buttons. (Technically it has valves made of flesh, but that hardly counts.) They have made the correct decision. It is called screaming. Sometimes there are notes in there. This is very exciting, but not encouraged. Having notes can ruin the effect of raw terror inspired by hearing a pure shriek. Abigail is studying music at the ANU, with a sprinkling of literary herbs. Isn't paper delicious? She is widely known in the Canberra musical theatre scene for the crime of being in the Canberra musical theatre scene and seen here on her wanted poster, ahem, bio photo. Abigail is into cosplay, so that is not a real knife. I promise.

Patrick Haesler (he/they) - Bass

Patrick is a composer, performer, sound designer and recording artist from Canberra, Australia (Ngunnawal Country). Beginning as a trumpet player, Patrick has since branched into numerous musical fields, drawing influences from jazz and progressive music. In addition to playing and teaching trumpet, Patrick also plays bass and EWI (Electronic Wind Instrument). As a solo artist, Patrick is prolific, having released several albums of original music under his own name in a variety of musical styles including jazz, soundtrack, metal, indie rock and more. His musical and sound design versatility has brought him many opportunities, most recently as Resident Artist with Canberra Youth Theatre in 2023.
